The picture of the casket represents that amount of the death that goes on during chapter eight of the novel. The people that die are Gatsby and Mr. Wilson. Gatsby dies because he is murdered by the furious Mr. Wilson that was upset and believed that it was Gatsby that ran over and killed his beloved wife Myrtle. Mr. Wilson dies because he commits suicide in Gatsby's grass field after killing Gatsby.

" I couldn't sleep all night; a fog-horn was groaning incessantly on the sound..." (154) This quote is just stating that Nick couldnt sleep because of the rain and the fogg-horns.

" Go to Atlantic City for a week, or up to Montreal."(155) When Nick says this to Gatsby, but Gatsby would never think of leaving behind Daisy.

"Daisy gleamiry like silver, safe and proud above the hot struggles of the poor."(157) This quote is just showing how not sad Daisy is about what just happened to her former lover, Gatsby.

"They're a rotten crowd,' and shouted across the lawn. 'You're worth the whole damn bunch put together.'"(162) This quote is said by Nick who is telling Gatsby that he is a better person than everyone combined.

Fitzgerald introduces chapter eight by flashing back to Gatsby's initial meetings and memories with Daisy. Gatsby focuses on the image of Daisy as a symbol of purity as well as her social and financial supenorty. Nick leaves Gatsby alone in his house isolated, alone in solitude, longing for Daisy. Gatsby alone in solitude thinking of the situation with him and Daisy relationship decides to go and try to calm down in the pool and think about the problem while floating on a raft in the pool. While Gatsby is alone at his house floating away on his raft in the pool Mr Wilson was able to sneak into his house. Mr Wilson is furious just realizing that it was Gatsby's that struck and killed his dear beloved wife Myrtle. Mr Wilson mad and furious walks into Gatsby's house without asking searching for Gatsby. When he finally finds Gatsby floating on a raft in the pool he shoots and kills him. Nick consirend about Gatsby goes over just to find Gatsby floating face down in his pool dead. Later a Gardener spots Mr. Wilson's dead lifeless body in the grass field.
