CHAPTER NINE

This picture represents the American Dream. Throughout the entire novel , Gatsby has been shearching for the American Dream. Gatsby doesn't realize until the end that no man is truly happy with just wealth, he needs love also. During this novel, the American Dream had been to start from the bottom and work your way to the top, on your own. It is not just about that but it is really about being happy also. You can be wealthy but make sure that you have true friends and that you are actually happy. The picture shown here represents America and what it stands for , and you can really do anything if you set your mind to it.

Quotes

" A rope stretched across the main gate and a policeman by it kept out the curious..."(171) This Quote is saying that Gatsby was found dead at his house, along with Wilson.

" ' mad man' as he bent over Wilson's body that afternoon... "(171) This quote was said by Nick who had over heard a detective say anything this about Wilson.

"He had a big future before him, you know."(176) This quote is showing How Bright of a man Gatsby really was.

"Daisy hadn't sent a message or a flower."(183) This quote just shows how really selfish and self-centered this people can be. Daisy had an intimate relationship with Gatsby and when he passes away because of something she did, she doesn't even bother to realize it.

SUMMARY

The last chapter begins with the police and paparazzi crowding Gatsby's house trying to get in to find out what has happened to Gatsby. Nick is decides to call up a close relative of Gatsby's and tell them the horrible news about what had happened to him. He tries calling everyone the people that went to his parties and Daisy. The people that went to his parties were just like whatever they didn't really seem to care when Nick told them the news. He called Daisy and Tom and they just were leaving to go on vacation so they just left without even caring about what had just happened. Nick is surprised be Daisy's actions because she once loved Gatsby and now she's just like whatever he died who cares. Nick plans the funeral for Gatsby and invites everyone gets ever had go to a party or talk to. During the funeral of Gatsby only few people were there showing that everyone just used Gatsby for his money, parties, and booze. It also shows that he had no real friends they were all fake and used him. And it shows that money did not bring Gatsby happiness it just brought him pain. The five people that actually did attend Gatsby's funeral were Nick, Meyer Wolfsheim, Gatsby's dead which flew in from Minnesota, Owl Eyes, and a few servants of Gatsby's.

comment on quote 3: Daisy actually doesn't know that Gatsby has died right away because Tom took her out of town right before it happened so she wouldn't find out. It only turns into selfishness with her not showing up at the funeral, but the book never said she knew he was dead before the funeral. Therefore, Daisy really isn't a selfcenterent person who doesnt care about Gatsby.
