Quotes

"Dan Cody's yacht dropped anchor in the shallows along the shore."(105) This quote is about Dan Cody who is the man that got Gatsby interested in wealth.

"...Lake Superior as a clam digger and a salmon fisher..."(104) Gatsby did this when he was younger for work, before he met Dan Cody.

"An instinct toward his future glory had led him..."(105) This is just saying that Gatsby had learned and knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life , be wealthy.

"And it was from cody that he inherited money-"(107) This is talking about Gatsby and how he had inherited money from Dan Cody, only it never managed to get to him because of legal issues. It just shows you how much Gatsby actually really cared about money.

SUMMARY

In chapter six of the novel The Great Gatsby we learn more interesting facts about Jay Gatsby. We as the reader learn in chapter six about who made the former named James Gatz changed his name to Jay Gatsby and fall in love with money. This man was Dan Cody. He first saw Dan Cody dropping the anchor of his yacht on the shores of Lake Superior. Cody took in Gatsby under his wing and showed him a different kind of life, a life of yachting. Gatsby and Cody went on a five year yachting journey and on their five year yatching journey they traveled around the world three times. After Gatsby returns he has a party and Tom attends it with Daisy. Gatsby is trying to impress Tom and by so he and pointing out all the top celebrities that were present at his party that evening. At this party Gatsby is unusual compared to when he has other parties. Normally he just sits back and doesn't do anything just watches all the people around him at his party. But this time with Daisy he is up and running around trying to impress the Buchannan's. He is up dancing and being active and this shows the happiness he gets from just be around and able to see Daisy.
